What was wrong with intervention in Kosovo?

I've never understood opposition to British and American military intervention in Kosovo. It's around, particularly amongst the same anti-war groups who I agree with (mostly) over Iraq. How can inaction in response to the genocide there be justified? Anybody holding such a view is encouraged to write in.

The iron is king

Was I the only one to find this article in today's Western Mail disturbing? It seems that the world of ironing is to be given a new masculine identity in response to growing demand from male customers.Terms such as "Turbo Pro Express Steam Generator", "Power Steam" and "Ultimate Control" are used to describe irons costing up to £229 in the current Argos catalogue. The new edition, published next month, will contain even more of these "male" phrases although traditional descriptions aimed primarily to appeal to women such as "quick", "convenient" and "easy iron" will still feature.According to Argos' "iron buyer", ...

Focus groups in hoods

Maesteg Comprehensive School in my region has announced that they are to ban hooded tops in a crackdown on badly-behaved pupils who use them to hide their faces. In a newsletter sent to parents, Maesteg head teacher Anne Carhart thanked parents for their support in a recent "clampdown" on uniforms. While you are thinking about that, we will discuss what the Eurovision Song Contest says about the difficulties facing the European project. You may remember that Britain’s representative was Javine. She sang “Touch my Fire” but got her fingers burnt. For Spain, the United ...

The Lindsays' last concert at the New Vic

Yesterday evening we went to the Lindsays' last concert at the New Vic; the end of an era that lasted 35 years. Peter Cheeseman, who made the New Vic what it is, was there to make a presentation.

Post, meetings and more meetings

Post came early this morning - amazing but there's been no real improvement in deliveries in this area and now I've a parcel missing and so much end of the month mail - even the Lib Dems news which I know was sent out - saw the copy at party HQ last night. My one and only mail came from Lynne ( Lynne Featherstone MP) and the postmark was Mount Pleasant the main sorting office - quite surprised. Must ask if MP's mail is specially sorted (the yellow envelopes have the Parliament logo embossed on) - still took 4 days ...

Where is Plan B for the Dutch Nee?

From the FT: Yet there was a common theme in both countries: voters think the EU has become too large, too distant and too undemocratic. The reality of life is that generally most voters do not notice what is happening that much until it affects them personally. The changes made recently in the European Union have culminated in a situation that will gradually cause more and more stress unless
