Rachel Reeves and Jonathan Reynolds have been embarrassed in recent days by inaccuracies in their CVs on LinkedIn. And these were perfectly valid stories for the media to investigate, even if what they have found looks to have been overhyped, at least in Reeves's case. But one man was in no doubt that these stories were serious: step forward Robert Jenrick - you can see his tweet above. Which makes this story from the Mirror rather amusing: Ambitious Tory Robert Jenrick has been forced to correct his own CV - after accusing Labour politicians of embellishing theirs. In a biography ...

Embed from Getty ImagesIt's been a busy day in the courts for politicians, writes our legal affairs correspondent. First, the Independent (formerly Labour) MP for Runcorn and Helsby, Mike Amesbury, was jailed for 10 weeks after punching a constituent in the street. As Amesbury has been imprisoned, a recall petition can now be launched to remove him from the Commons if he doesn't do the decent thing. Then Nathan Gill, who was a UKIP and later a Brexit Party MEP between 2014 and 2020, and briefly the leader of Reform Wales after that, appeared in court accused of accepting bribes ...

My mother died last year. She was an amazing woman, as an academic, a mother, a mountaineer and much more. But her breast cancer had metastasised to her stomach and abdomen, killing her. But because she lived in New South Wales, Australia, she could choose Voluntary Assisted Dying, and was able to control how, when, and where she would die. That mattered immensely to her, empowering her to end her life with dignity, how she chose. When I was an MP, I was keen to see the UK pass legislation to enable this in the UK – but the opportunity ...

Thank you for being a reader. It has been quite the year for Liberal Democrats and with another year under its belt, this newsletter continues to be most likely the longest-running single-authored political email newsletter in Britain. Eeek. That is only possible thanks to the support of wonderful readers who mention my blog, newsletters and podcasts to others, keeping the audiences growing rather than shrinking, and who donate to help cover the costs. So long-term readers will know what is coming next. My annual appeal to ask if you're able to sign up for a small regular donation to help ...

Bravery takes you through the most unimaginable hardships to finally reward you with victory. Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelenskyy Three years ago the Russian invasion of Ukraine became too loud for Europe and the world to ignore. The truth that those same countries could not admit before then, is that the Russian invasion of Ukraine had actually started in 2014 with the invasion of Crimea and the start of the Donbass War. Far from fighting for their independence for three years, Ukrainians have actually been fighting for over 10 years. What prevented Ukraine's now allies, and the US, from recognising what ...

When you're a solo consultant, every day is a school day. Things move quickly and there's always something new to learn. New ideas come up. New technologies come into play. Consequently, it's important that you keep your skills sharp and stay on top of your game. I'd encourage you to have an ongoing plan for your professional development. This is likely to include a mixture of some things that you do on a regular basis and others that take the form of a one-off learning exercise. I read the Harvard Business Review when it comes out every couple of months, ...

Commenting on the third anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey said: For three years, the brave Ukrainian people have heroically defended their country against Putin's war machine. Now we face an era-defining moment which will determine the future of our continent for generations to come. Now, more than ever, we must stand firmly in support of our Ukrainian friends, resist Trump's alarming attempts at a stitch up with Putin and work with our European neighbours to defend freedom and democracy. That should start immediately, using the £40 billion of Russian assets frozen by the ...

The idea that Parkinson's Disease (PD) is an accelerated form of brain aging has been around for quite a long time. However, as with aging more generally any hypothesis as to the mechanisms behind Parkinson's needs to explain all the known research data. Karma and a leading Tory

The Mirror reports that ambitious Tory Robert Jenrick has been forced to correct his own CV - after accusing Labour politicians of embellishing theirs. The paper says that in a biography on his website, Mr Jenrick claims to have been "the joint youngest Cabinet Minister since the Second World War, tied with Harold Wilson and William Hague" when he was made Housing Secretary in 2019, but he was 37 at the time he was elevated to the cabinet, while Wilson and Hague were 31 and 34 respectively when reaching Cabinet minister status: Mr Jenrick's lengthy LinkedIn bio runs to over ...
