Michael Mullaney condemns Tory plan to cancel Leicestershire County Council's elections
Michael Mullaney, leader of the Liberal Democrat group on Leicestershire County Council, has condemned the Conservatives decision to seek government permission to cancel this years elections for the council. He told Leicestershire Live: "People have a right to go and vote in May's elections. Cancelling them is just a way for the county council's Conservative leadership to try and rush through their plans to see boroughs and districts abolished. "To create a huge super authority, containing most of Leicestershire and possibly Rutland too, would see decision making taken further away from people's lives. These plans are not about devolving power ...

Tuesday morning. First day back for quite a few people, as a number of schools across Hertfordshire had an INSET day on Monday, 6th January. Our household was no different. Although I returned to work on Thursday, 2nd January, the rest of my family started their various work and school commitments the day after, on Tuesday, 7th January. We live in a beautiful Welwyn Garden City, however my daughter goes to a Catholic school in St Albans. We have to pay for a private bus as the public bus provision is not always the best. We accept it; it was ...

It used to be tens of people working on this farm and now it's just me and my husband."Patrick Barkham meets some of the growing number of farmers who are joining forces with right-to-roam campaigners to boost public access ...
One principal authority council by-election this week and it is one where the voters don't seem to have got the memo from the Westminster political bubble about how politics is meant to be all about culture warring populists of rival right wing parties. This talk will introduce you to international and local exemplar buildings and ...
The Independent reports that Liz Truss has sent Sir Keir Starmer a cease and desist letter, warning him to stop saying she "crashed the economy". The paper says that the former prime minister's lawyers have said the remarks - made since the lead-up to the general election - are likely to "cause serious harm to her reputation", claiming they are "false and defamatory". The paper adds that the former Prime Minister's lawyers also suggest that assertions made by the Labour leader before the July general election contributed to Ms Truss losing her South West Norfolk seat: Sir Keir has repeatedly ...
