These tunnels were built to divert watercourses in the area, so they could build the station on top. Also known as The Megatron. The Porter Brook, one of the rivers that flows beneath the station, has given its name to Porterbrook Leasing, one of the Rosco's - rolling stock companies - created when the railways were privatised. Leeds Station was also built on arches above a river, but the Dark Arches there are easier to explore on foot.

The Lunchtime Recital featuring Sheena Wellington will be on Tuesday 3rd September starting at 1pm in the Wighton Heritage Centre in the Central Library. Singer Sheena is, of course, a familiar presence at the Wighton and has chosen to celebrate her 80th Birthday with a fundraiser for the Friends of Wighton Education and Outreach programme. Sheena says : "Please, no presents (trying to get rid of ornaments as it is), no flowers (I'm allergic), but donations will be very welcome - and there will be cake!" The Mirror reports on a survey conducted by Victims' Commissioner Helen Newlove which found that disabled victims of crime have been "infantilised and patronised" by police with nearly half (45%) dissatisfied with their experience in the criminal justice system, and just 20% feeeling confident that they would get justice by reporting a crime, fewer than the already dismal 23% across all groups.
