Back to one of my current rabbit holes: the demolition of Desborough ironstone high street in 1970, which seems inexplicable to us today. This video shows you the buildings that were lost and what replaced them. In many cases you find that nothing replaced them. Even Station Street, which was the town's second shopping street and left untouched, seems to have dwindled since the calamity of 1970 I can say here just what I said in a post about the 1958 British film No Trees in the Street: I am reminded of what I wrote about Wheat Street and Wharf ...

In return, successive American administrations – not just Trump – have asked their European allies to spend two percent of their GDP on defence. Only a ...

Heavens! I've seldom known the old boy so forthright. Freddie and Fiona did eventually relent and allow Ed Davey to apologise, but I doubt that has been enough to quell the passion in the village - or in Lord Bonkers' breast. Thursday Did you see Mr Bates vs The Post Office? It shocked me, I will confess. If they can get away with treating Toby Jones like that, is any of us safe? In London on business this afternoon, I make time to beard Davey in his Westminster Office. "Don't you think you should say you're sorry?" I ask him. ...
Lib Dems have been reacting to the shocking news of Alexei Navalny's death. Ed Davey said: Horrified by reports of the death of Alexei Navalny – at the hands of Putin, no doubt. Putin's despicable methods might be to kill his enemies, but he will never kill the light of freedom and democracy which Navalny has stood for so courageously. Scottish Lib Dem Leader Alex Cole-Hamilton attended a vigil last night at the Russian Consulate in Edinburgh: It was a privilege to join Russian citizens outside the Consulate this evening in a vigil for the life of Alexei #Navalny, murdered ...
We recently received further concerns from residents about the deteriorating condition of the roadway of Saggar Street. We therefore asked the roads maintenance partnership to undertake repairs, but, given its really poor state, have also asked about the possibility of resurfacing the street which we feel badly needs done.
