In addition to all the MEPs, Prime Ministers and Grandees there were also quite a few local Councillors like me in attendance. The Committee of Regions continued to focus on Local Government issues by mounting a couple of specific interest Fringe sessions. One regular event is entitled the Liberal Mayors Summit, and despite the poor attendance of Mayors and Group Leaders from the UK ,even when we were in the EU, I've fortunately managed to sneak in on a couple of occasions. There's a programme about Les Dawson that used to be shown regularly on high-numbered TV channels. One of the people who pays tribute to Dawson is John Cleese, who was a regular in two series of Sez Les. Why is it that when Plaid Cymru or Labour politicians feel that they need to get more attention, they resort to proposals that will either restrict individual choice or will seek to use legislation to compel people to act in a certain way? The BBC reports that former Plaid Cymru leader, Adam Price has proposed that voting in Senedd and local elections should be compulsory. We recently received concerns about damage to the pavement at the junction of Annfield Road and Blackness Road - see photo. We therefore brought this to the attention of the council's Roads Maintenance Partnership requesting repairs and have been advised as follows : "An order has been raised for repairs to be carried out."
