Paddy Logan. Charles Masterman. Lord Bonkers. These are my political heroes. But why am I so keen on Edwardian Liberals? Browsing through the family photo albums, of which I'm now the custodian, I have found a possible answer. Because this is a photo of me in a sailor suit. I'm not sure how common they still were in the early Sixties, but maybe the fact my mother has been in the WRNS and my father in the Royal Navy was an influence. I remember my mother saying I used to get excited when she got it out because I knew ...

Lee said, It has been an immense privilege to serve the good folk of Assington, Leavenheath, Little Cornard and Newton since I was first elected in 2015. Encounters

Dressed for Zoom. Staring in blank, thinking of encounters... To feel your core across my thighs; To heat your cheeks: exposed, opened, stroked and striped, reddened in the air; To see your beauty kneeling down;To hold your head against my groin, exalting what the other gives; A forge for memories to bondlike flakes of amber pressed in trust, borrowed [...]

Back in the 1990s I worked for H. Samuel and for three years of that time I was based in the store (no longer within the group) that was positioned at the Piccadilly Circus end of Shaftesbury Avenue. It was the flagship store of the chain at the time, with the famous semi-circle window up in what was our ring sizing and buffering room and being right under the neon lights. It also of course was right in the heart of things. Right in the heart of the hustle and bustle of the City of Westminster. Shops, Government and Theatre ...

The Liberal Democrats have been analysing the latest data from the NHS. It shows that there are 547 fewer GP practices in England compared with 2019 – during a period when patient numbers have been rising. Now some of those could be due to mergers of practices, but not all, because we also know that GP numbers have fallen as well. In fact, there are now 850 fewer NHS GPs than four years ago. Remember that in the last election (in 2019) the Tories promised to recruit 6000 more GPs. Rural communities suffer most from losing their medical centres. There ...

We promised you pictures from the launch of the party's local election campaign today. Not content with a mallet, Ed Davey smashed the Blue Wall with a yellow tractor. And this is what Ed said: People are having to wait hours for an ambulance, weeks for a GP appointment or months for urgent cancer treatment as the NHS crisis spirals out of control. But the Conservatives have failed to deliver the new hospitals they promised and are breaking their pledge to recruit more GPs. It shows this Conservative government is out of touch, out of ideas and out of excuses. ...

The tractor of Liberalism demolishes the blue bales of Tory privilege. From BBC News: Speaking ahead of the launch, Mr Davey said: "People are having to wait hours for an ambulance, weeks for a GP appointment or months for urgent cancer treatment as the NHS crisis spirals out of control. "The local elections in May will be the final chance before the next general election to send a message that enough is enough. "People are turning to the Liberal Democrats because they know we work hard for our communities, we hear your concerns, and we never take you for granted." ...

Ed Davey will today launch the Lib Dem campaign for this year's local elections, which take place on 4th May. And he's already getting some good coverage. The theme for today is health, as that is what people are raising most with us on the doorstep. We are calling for an extra 8000 GPs to fill the massive gaps in coverage and service. Here's Ed talking to BBC Breakfast this morning: The Liberal Democrats have called for 8,000 GPs to be recruited to save "on-the-brink" local health services. Leader Sir Ed Davey spoke to #BBCBreakfast as the party launched its ...

In a remarkable feat of synchronicity, the week that the BBC starts to air a new adaptation of Great Expectations, the Tory Government announces that they intend to house asylum seekers on barges and cruise ships, a modern day equivalent of the prison hulk that dominates the opening chapters of Dickens' novel. As the website Exploring London explains, floating prisons known as 'hulks' were a regular site on the Thames in London between the late 18th century and mid-19th century, used to house convicts awaiting transportation to British penal colonies including in what is now Australia. The 'hulks' were actually ...
