Zahawi – Sunak must withdraw Conservative Whip ONS winter survey: A damning verdict on the Government's record Zahawi – Sunak must withdraw Conservative Whip The Liberal Democrats have written to Rishi Sunak calling on him to withdraw the Conservative whip from Nadhim Zahawi. In a letter to Sunak sent today, Liberal Democrat Deputy Leader Daisy Cooper said that Zahawi has shown he is not fit to represent his constituents, and that if he refuses to resign as an MP then he should have the Conservative whip withdrawn. It comes after Nadhim Zahawi refused to apologise for failing to come clean ...

The BBC reports: Nadine Dorries has been accused by Parliament's anti-corruption watchdog of breaking the ministerial code by not consulting it before taking a TV job. The former culture secretary will host a new talk show, Friday Night With Nadine, on TalkTV from 3 February. Lord Pickles, chair of the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments (Acoba), said it was informed of her decision to take up the role on Friday. "Failing to seek and await advice" was a breach of the rules, he told her. In a separate letter to Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster Oliver Dowden, Lord Pickles ...

The Guardian speculates once more about the future of Boris Johnson with the news that the former Prime Minister has been spotted looking at schools and is house-hunting in Oxfordshire, prompting rumours that he is considering running for his former seat of Henley at the next election. They say that Johnson had been planning to contest his existing seat of Uxbridge, a marginal in west London with a majority of 7,200. However, Labour believes it could be winnable and if Johnson loses it could end his hopes of another run at Conservative leader: Johnson's successor in the leafy Oxfordshire seat, ...

I spent a chunk of my weekend completing my 2021/22 Self Assessment tax return. Yes, I know, "left it a bit late, didn't you, Mark?". Luckily, my tax return isn't terribly complicated once I've found the required bits of information online and elsewhere. Nadhim Zahawi appears to have had a rather more complex task or, should I say, his tax advisors. Carbon copy?

Earlier this month, Gateshead Council's all-Labour cabinet debated the recently announced devolution proposals for the North East at a specially convened meeting. Actually, "debated" is probably too strong a word to use. Leader of the Council Martin Gannon said a few words and Cllr John McElroy asked a question about consultation. But all the other Cabinet members remained silent.Seven years ago
