I've blogged before about how I worked for the organiser of the Liberal Party Assembly in 1985. That summer the office was housed on two narrow boats at Foxton Locks. The BBC reports: A Conservative councillor has defected to the Liberal Democrats due to concerns over how the council is run. Charlie Bayram, who represents Howden on East Riding Council, said the Liberal Democrats were the only party "holding the council to account"... The Conservative group said it was "saddened" by his decision, but said it came after he was not re-selected to stand in his ward. Mr Bayram won re-election in Howden in 2019, with 41.6% of the vote. There are more than 2,000 food banks in the UK and the number of food parcels they give out has risen enormously. The Trussell Trust, which represents 1,300 food banks, issued 2.1 million food parcels in 2021/22, a staggering increase on the 40,000 it issued in 2010. Not everyone believes these statistics.
