The Joy of Six 1045

Paul Caruana Galizia, Katie Gunning and Matt Russell on how a Conservative peer and Cameron ally paved the road to Londongrad for sanctioned Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska. "I am in no doubt that the Metropolitan Police Service has some of the most dedicated officers in the world. Yet, we are seeing more cases than ever of serious misconduct, with officers involved in taking pictures of murder victims; attempting to engage in sexual activity with a child; stealing drug money; and assault and rape." Caroline Pidgeon says the new Met Commissioner must be brutally honest about the challenges facing the force ...

Of all the festivals in Ludlow - and we are a festival town - I enjoy the Medieval Christmas Fayre more than the food festivals. The Medieval Christmas Fayre is gentle silliness. Singing in tents. A laugh a minute even if at times it could be a muddy puddle a minute, And of course, good local beer and cider. We still have a host of festivals. The spring and autumn food festivals. The Fringe. Arts festivals. But I will so miss the Medieval Christmas Fayre. Here is the statement from Dakin Events, Prue and Abi, issued earlier today. We wish ...

So, Akshata Murty is non-domiciled for tax purposes. What does this mean, and how does it work? Luckily, the information is readily at hand... Domicile is obtained in one of three ways; origin – normally, your place of birth dependence – where the law ascribes domicile to an individual because of that individual's lack of legal capacity and legal dependence upon another person choice – acquired by physical presence in another territory and the intention to remain in that territory permanently or indefinitely So, in Akshata Murty's case, her domicile of origin is India and, unless she indicates her wish ...

Slight disappointment as it was locked. A lot of newspaper cuttings and signs suggested that there had been theft of the lead roof in the past. A beautiful church never the less. Was difficult to get get a good close up photo, sad also there were glimpses of pretty stain glass windows. The surroundings were strange in having quite modern houses, for the period of the church, around it. There wasn't the usual isolation of many Norfolk Churches. Maybe next time can get in.

This first first appeared on the Radix UK blog... I am treading on eggshells here and I am far from sure I will reach safely to the other side. We shall see. As many of you will know, I have been diagnosed with parkinsonism - a variant (though nobody is quite sure which) of Parkinson's Disease. That has made me peculiarly interested in complementary health of all kinds - even if I hadn't had chronic eczema for years too. The difficulty is just how little there is of it over here. Rather as alternative education has been squeezed out by ...

So, who leaked the information that Rishi Sunak had retained a US Green Card up until last year? Or that his wife, Akshata Murty, was non-domiciled for tax purposes? Was it a Labour supporter within Downing Street, as originally suggested (unlikely but not impossible, I guess), or someone from the Number 10 dirty tricks team? However the information has reached the public domain, it's certainly put the cat amongst the pigeons. Conservative Home readers have put him in their bottom three in terms of approval ratings (+7.4%) which, given that he was second in August, with a net approval rating ...

As if things were not bad enough, the Mirror reports that Lib Dem research has revealed that families face paying an extra £160 a year in Tory levies on water and energy. The paper says that over the next five years people will have to stump up £40 a year to pay back Chancellor Rishi Sunak's £200 loan to combat 2022's soaring gas an electric bills. But in 2025 a sewage levy will kick in adding another £60 and £48 extra to pay for Boris Johnson's eight new nuclear power stations. The nuclear levy will steadily rise to £96 a ...
