I'm on my way back from an event at the University of Bradford, which might explain today's very slow start today. And, for those of you who know Bradford, you'll have recognised the picture. For those of you who don't, the statue of J B Priestly stands in front of the National Science and Media Museum. Universities have suffered rather badly under recent Conservative administrations. Brexit has impacted on students coming here via the Erasmus programme, and research has been impacted by arguments over our participation in the Horizon 2020 programme. Throw in the impact of culture warriors with blue ...
Ormskirk's Station where Merseyrail and Northern trains meet. Well, this surprised me – Ormskirk Station so well used – see link below:- A 502 EMU at Ormskirk back in the day. Quote from the article – 'The county's second most used station is Ormskirk which saw an impressive 549,410 entries and exists in 2021/2021.' The entrance/exit of Ormskirk Station at night. The post Ormskirk Station - 2nd most used in Lancs first appeared on Sefton Focus.
The "Building Communities" motion last autumn left us with a target of 380,000 new homes a year, despite opposition from ALDC and most of the Party hierarchy. The grassroots, especially the young, don't trust their colleagues who have to work with government at all levels. Targets like this are gestures that discredit our radical tradition. They are not policies and they are bound to fail unless a Party has policies that can deliver them. Noticeably none of the policies in the motion were opposed. Just the target. The national housing target merely "feeds the beast" that is the cartel of ...
The Liberal Democrats have called for the scrapping of the regional differences in electricity and gas bills, which is seeing some households paying £124 more for their gas and electricity just because of where they live. The UK is broken up into fourteen different pricing regions where it costs different amounts to get electricity and gas to people's homes. This leads to people in the North of Scotland, Wales and South West England paying more for their gas and electricity bills than other parts of the country. Analysis by the Liberal Democrats shows that households in North Wales and Merseyside ...

Responding to the Government's long-awaited energy strategy being delayed, Liberal Democrat Leader and former Energy & Climate Change Secretary Ed Davey MP said: "Millions of families are facing sky-rocketing energy bills and eye-watering inflation but the government still refuses to take any action to help. "Last week Rishi Sunak's statement failed to support families and now Boris Johnson clearly has no real strategy to deal with the cost of the energy emergency. People deserve a government that will rise to the occasion and take action needed to help."

The Guardian reports on warnings by union leaders that hospitals, schools and the civil service will suffer a "mass exodus" of key staff unless millions of public sector employees receive pay rises that at least match the spiralling rate of inflation. They say that following chancellor Rishi Sunak's spring statement last week, which offered no more money to public services, the prospect of long and bitter battles over pay look certain as the cost of living crisis grows: The prospect of pay disputes with the public sector is another big headache for Sunak, whose net approval rating has dropped to ...
