The Incredibles

The Incredibles won the Hugo for Best Dramatic Presentation, Long Form made in Glasgow in 2005, the first time that I was there in person for the ceremony and I think the first time I voted as well. I had not seen anything in this category and did not express a preference. Voters liked it; it was well in the lead both for nominations and on the final ballot, beating, in order, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Spider-Man 2, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Since then I have seen ...

I've mentioned this Liverpool City Region project previously (see links below) but now the M58 'Ashworth' Junction to Kirkby part is complete* – here's my review of it. Oh and there's a related posting about the stone-built bus shelter which now sits between the new cycle path and Prescot Road and had previously been threatened with demolition:- From the M58 'Ashworth' Junction south eastwards towards the Pear Tree Pub there's a cycle path on both sides of the road (Maghull Lane) up to the junction with Prescot Road. If you've read the 2nd link above you'll note ...

Posters at Chesham and Amersham Ed Davey has put Conservative MPs like Dominic Raab (majority over Lib Dems 2743), Steven Brine (majority over Lib Dems 985) and William Wragg (majority over Lib Dems 4423) on notice that the Liberal Democrats are coming after their seats at the next General Election. He set out what we are doing to turn the blue wall of Conservative seats in the south west yellow and emphasised our importance in getting the Tories out of office. As we are the sole challengers in these areas, he said, we are a key part of depriving the ...

With rising energy costs, hikes in the price of petrol, more expensive food stuffs due to Brexit, benefit cuts, tax rises and restrictions on the ability of many people to earn a living due to Covid, the new year does not look that promising. What makes it worse, according to the Mirror, is the fact that a lot of people do not have enough money stashed away for a rainy day. The paper says that a study of government statistics shows that over six million workers have no savings at all as they face this looming cost of living crisis. ...

As Western forces withdrew from Afghanistan, hopes that the Afghan Government could stand on its own two feet proved to be entirely illusionary, as did the Afghan Army. And whilst it could be reasonably said that no British Government could have dealt well with such a collapse, the failure of the Conservatives to honour their commitments was a reminder that their policy aim was almost solely to get to the next afternoon. It started with the failure to evacuate those Afghans who had assisted our troops as interpreters, as Ed Davey noted. The challenge of how to evacuate U.K. nationals ...

A party press release says... The Liberal Democrats have said they are now on "battle stations" for the next election, as the party looks to replicate its stunning by-election wins in North Shropshire and Chesham and Amersham in dozens of marginal Conservative seats across the country. Ed Davey said the party is preparing to "turn the Blue Wall yellow." The party is beefing up its ground campaigning ability in areas including Dominic Raab's constituency of Esher and Walton in Surrey, Steven Brine's seat in Winchester, and William Wragg's Hazel Grove, all areas where Conservative MPs are defending wafer-thin majorities. The ...

Alex Cole-Hamilton has recorded his first New Year Message as leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats. A message from @agcolehamilton this New Year's Eve. Happy New Year everyone! pic.twitter.com/t1Bsy2BjLh — Scottish Lib Dems (@scotlibdems) December 31, 2021 The text is below: The turn of the year is a time of renewal, of looking ahead to the year to come – but it's also a time to reflect on the year that's just passed. It's hard to imagine that at this time last year, barely anyone had received their first dose of a Covid vaccine. "It makes it all the more ...

Congratulations to the fellow Liberal Democrats spotted so far in the New Year's Honours List. Although I have misgivings about some political honours that get dished out (no, being paid to be a minster and sitting behind a desk for years doing a mediocre job does not deserve special recognition), there are many people who do amazing things who are deserving of recognition. So congratulations to the following Liberal Democrats, and do let me know of any omissions. Former Liberal Democrat Vice President, Isabelle Parasram: Whether you supported my nomination for an OBE [IMG: 🎖] , gave me incredible opportunities ...

Happy New Year 2022!

A very Happy New Year from Cllr Fraser Macpherson, Michael Crichton and the West End Focus Team! All the best for 2022!

Chris Whitty and Emma Raducanu were dead certs for the New Year Honours list published today. But what about all those people working for their local communities, most of whom were nominated by the people they serve, and some of whom are certainly Lib Dems (because that's what Lib Dems do)? Here is the chance to tell us about any members who have been given an honour this time round. Use the comments below to explain why they have been honoured and we will add them to the main post. Isabelle Parasram Congratulations to former Vice President of the Lib ...
