As well as the North Shropshire Parliamentary by-election, there are several council by-elections this week.

Since 2014, more or less, I've been including the second paragraph of the third chapter (C3P2's, for short) of books that I have read as part of my reviews here (If there are no chapters, I look for the second paragraph of the third sub-section within the text; if there are no sub-sections, as is sometimes the case for shorter pieces, I just take the third paragraph from the beginning.) I was originally inspired by H, and have carried on; it feels like a differently valid way of engaging with the literature that I am reading. Now that we are ...

The nights are truly drawing in and Winter is just around the corner. We have been out and about, helped by colleagues, knocking on your doors to see how you have been doing through the pandemic. We have heard some very sad accounts of loneliness and loss, but also tales of great resilience and stoicism. [...]

[IMG: Parking Sandgate High Street / Gough Road] Wednesday afternoon I was at the Folkestone & Hythe District Council Cabinet meeting, with a varied agenda: Really pleased to get a couple of amendments accepted. Firstly, an addition to the Capital budget for next year to aim to start the roll-out of accepting of contactless payments in car parks in the district (on top of cash and Ringo). The proposals sought to remove the "off-peak" adult swim ...

Gary Numnan may have asked in 1979 'Are friends electric?' but his sentiment appears to have fallen on deaf ears with the current government. Back in November 2020 Ministers announced that they were going to end the sale of new petrol and diesel cars by 2030 and promote electric and hybrid vehicles through subsidy and an investment in appropriate infrastructure instead. In my view there are questions about the technology, in particular the size, life-cycle and weight of batteries, which means that when driving a hybrid in conventional mode ...

That was the question asked by journalist Michael Crick yesterday. And the person he asked was the Conservative candidate in the North Shropshire by-election. Unfortunately we have to link to the Daily Mail so you can see his answer(s), but it is worth watching the whole of this gem of a video. To everyone helping today's efforts – have a great day! And good luck to Helen Morgan. * Mary Reid is a contributing editor on Lib Dem Voice. Responding to new figures which show that inflation has hit 5.1% - its highest level in a decade - Liberal Democrat Treasury Spokesperson Christine Jardine MP said: "Families and businesses are facing the perfect storm this winter as inflation soars and Covid surges. "Boris Johnson cannot stand idly by while the cost of living crisis forces people to choose between eating and heating. "The Conservatives must offer hope to families this Christmas, starting by scrapping their unfair and manifesto-breaking tax rise coming in next year. "We also need an urgent package of support for cafés, pubs and restaurants on the ...

Residents recently contacted me to say that there is no longer any 'no through road' signage at the cul de sac at the north end of Hillside Drive. I raised this with the roads maintenance partnership and have received the following helpful response : "Bailie Macpherson - We have had a look at the complaint. We agree and have put in an order for new sign and pole."
