Just what I wanted for Christmas. The Dowager Lady Bonkers found it via a bookdealer in Brig o' Turk.
I am HIV positive. Just saying that brief sentence or its alternative I am living with HIV. gives people the opportunity to do and say the most remarkable things. Take for instance, what happened last night or rather early this morning after the Midnight Eucharist in St Patrick's Parish Church, Ballymena (Church of Ireland) - ...
Anyone want to give this crazy Russian a happy new year? #ukpubs We have plenty of pump clips, beer mats and similar kicking around the house, have to dig some out and get a stamp. (tags: crazy russians beermats collectibles)
Have I just been unobservant in previous years, or has there really been a glut of 'Scrooge' stories this Christmas TV season? Over the last three days at least seven or so versions of The Redeeming Three Hauntings, have been screened, from the muppets right through to Dr Who. Have the schedulers all chanced on the same thought, making a comment that with the economic squeeze in progress we are having a dickens of a time?
Thank you all for your continued readership and support of my little blog. Due to the fact that we are having our Civil Partnership next month, we haven't sent out as many Christmas cards as normal. For those that don't receive a Christmas card this year, please don't be offended, but here is the picture we chose for this years card. So, Merry Christmas to one and all.
If you've just enjoyed watching the (excellent) Dr Who episode entitled A Christmas Carol here's the 1910 film version of A Christmas Carol
Radio 3 has listed Tannhäuser, omitting the umlaut. Standards are slipping at the Beeb, or has Zai Bennett, the controller of BBC 3 decided that he agrees with the citizens of Lancre, that one should avoid unnecessary punctuation?
I have tonight taken down my tree, packed away all the decorations and thrown the 3 Christmas cards I received in the bin. Its all just window dressing anyway and just made me feel worse every time I saw them. ... Continue reading →
Last night was the worst night of my adult life. The fever finally broke at about 4am, and by 6am I could feel the medications I'd been dosing myself on actually take effect. I work with kids. If I'd thought about it, I should've known to go get a flu jab, the thing is, every dose of flu I've had up to now has been a mild form of "knock you out for a few days, Lemsip'll help" type. This dose of flu? Bloody awful. I've had it since last Sunday, thought I was getting over it Thursday, only to ...
A Merry Doctor Who Special Day to you all, and there's just time, with Ronnie Corbett in full flow on TV and Richard coughing over his turkey at putting on some lederhosen, for me to spoiler an ultra-special Christmas secret. I've got to tell you: Doctor Who Supremo Steven Moffat very nearly pulled off a cracker of a con-job. You think, don't you, that tonight's story is going to be A Christmas Carol again? Honestly. As if the ever-inventive* Mr Moffat would give us such a Dickensian old chestnut that the series first did it more than twenty years ago! ...
Sad to hear of the passing of the inventor of the Wombles.
So, lot of people asking me, where you been? Last thing remember it 2008. I step outside Cowley Printworks for crafty cigarette with Don Clegg and all go very quiet. See glint of sunlight on metal, trip over pile of discarded papers, (something about silly promises not worth keeping by Signor Alexander) and fall in front of Don Clegg. After bang sounds, remember nothing until waking up in hospital few days ago. Gotta say Family change quite a bit while away. Walk down street in Little Sicily yesterday and where is the respect? Liberali Junior minding show for me say ...
From Twitter I learn that most people have already opened their presents, their stockings, and parcels - before lunch! with my parents when I was young Before we set off for the service on Christmas Eve night, we set up the Christmas tree unlike many of our friends who had had theirs up since December 1. ...
I always play a CD of church bells at Christmas must to the annoyance of my children. This year I have found an excellent rendition from York Minster. Have a very merry Christmas
So it comes to pass. Christmas is upon us. I am wearing my santa costume - I could say in a bid for thermal efficiency to get the layers up - but alas despite my best efforts I have succomb (or slipped) from my eco high ground into a hint of christmas commercialism. And when we look back upon the year what ahs stood out the most. Is it the alledged world cup fifa corruption, wikileaks, an election year or the burgeonign recession. Well this year my partner and I had the arrival of a little one who is 6 ...
Before: Despite the delivery problems, a respectable pile of parcels After: F surrounded by trophies (note new Pterry book in foreground) U worships the diabolical Tweenies And we're going to try and take B for a walk in the snow this afternoon. Happy Christmas to those who celebrate, a restful and enjoyable day to all.
I never wanted to write this post today of all days but if I don't write it, it will stick in my head all day. Christmas Day is the one day that I dread above all others. It is the day that ... Continue reading →

The Right Reverend Nicholas Reade, the Bishop of Blackburn is asking for "legitimate Christian protests" against government cuts. The bishop uses the word legitimate in order to distinguish his protest calls from those who organise violence. That's the easy bit. The complicated bit is knowing what he is calling for. Are Christians called to support the Coalition cuts or are they more inclined to become members of another party? I have a book written by three MPs, one Liberal Democrat, one Labour and one Tory and each put their case for Christian values within their party. They all make a ...
