Labour attempt to engineer another race row
One of the less edifying spectacles of tonight's Southwark Council Meeting was a co-ordinated attempt by the Labour opposition to manufacture a race dispute where none exists. The basis of the dispute was a response to a question at an earlier Council Meeting about the proportion of senior officers in the Council who are non-white. It has fallen from 17.2% in 2004 to 15.7% today. It emerged during the meeting, thanks to the persistence of Councillor Noakes, that Labour had no idea how many people were covered by the 'senior' derogation.
