Labour Government Kills off Final Salary Pensions

With the tax on pensions introduced early on by the government pension funds were struggling. There always have been tensions between final salary pension schemes and defined contribution schemes. Industry and Commerce find it difficult to cope with the uncertainty of the defined contribution schemes. When inflation was higher it was easy for them to cope as the effect of inflation whittled

The Bitter Withy As it fell out on a high holidaySmall rain from heaven did fall,Sweet Jesus asked his mother dearIf he might play at ball. "To play, to play," dear child she did say"It's time that you were goneAnd don't let me hear of any mischiefAt night when you come home." Season' s Greetings

Christmas Greetings to one and all. I really enjoyed watching the "Greatest Store in the World" this morning. Splendid performances , a very good script and the real Christmas Spirit. "People were buying everything that money could buy, in the hope they would get what money couldn't buy as well". "Having adventures is more important than being tidy"

And with that - I am blogging off until January 9th when Parliament returns. However, if anything monumentally interesting happens - I will post in the

Christmas Traditions

Everybody seems to be agreed that the highlight of the festive season will be tomorrow's airing of the Dr. Who Christmas special. This is a big jump from previous Christmas staples such as the Morecambe and Wise Show and Only Fools and Horses. Today's Guardian heightens our anticipation by reviewing the standard fare from other countries around the World. Come to think of it, haven't I read this article before? It seems that others have their TV traditions as ...

putting the party back into politics

Well, it's that time of year to take a break and pause to reflect. Being a bit of a hopeless case, I spent a bit of time surfing the Mori site, and came across this article:The Future of Political PartiesIt points out the blindingly obvious. Membership, identification with and activism within all political parties have seriously fallen over the last few decades. Yet people are still interested in politics in a general sense. And take part in other forms of political activity and protest. Where did it all go wrong, George? The article suggests the fun ...
