Ask a silly question...

Telewest has just published an interesting opinion poll on e-voting. Sadly, it consists largely of tendentious questions and helps perpetuate several myths, which the BBC's news report swallowed hook, line and sinker. The first of these myths is the idea that e-voting is the answer to declining public interest in politics and low turnouts. To entertain this proposition, one has to believe that

Bring back metal dustbins

Following tonight's first episode of Doctor Who, I trust that all Liberal Democrat-controlled councils will be reviewing their policy on plastic wheelie bins.

Anne Milton: Nurse. Mother. Dipstick.

Is the excellent Tim Ireland website which analyses the Conservative Campaign in Guildford, Anne Milton being the Tory candidate there. The Tories seem to be willing to stoop pretty low to try and win the seat back. You can find the site at http://www.bloggerheads.com/anne_milton/ I helped the excellent Sue Doughty a lot in the last election and have seen how hard she has worked since. Ms Milton will have to be pretty lucky to win this one.

Other planets have a North as well, you know ...

Well I loved it. Christopher Ecclestone is an inspired choice and Billie Piper an ideal companion. The TARDIS looked great, the production values and writing is fantastic, and there were just enough in jokes to keep the fans happy without detracting from the plot. Can't wait for next Saturday!

Snide comments

The snide comment to this blog "do you think 3% is a good showing?" started me thinking about other snide comments and I was remind of an incident during the Romsey by-election. Candidates (and minders) for the three main parties had to get up early to stand in the Watrose Car Park being invterviewed for Five Live (It's such a glamorous life). For some reason the Tory candidate (Tim Palmer)

Psst...... Did you know?

It is a feature of the election build up period that we are sent anonymous letters, receive the occasional anonymous phone call and have people sidling up to us saying "I think you should know...." Admittedly there was more of it at the last election but I sometimes wonder what people are expecting us to do when they anonymously provide information. The nice one today was when a well wisher told

Birthday blues?

It was back to business today with a round of canvassing in Rownhams in the morning followed by envelope stuffing in the afternoon. There was a birthday cake and some fizz to help things on their way. I had to ask myself how many other people would choose to spend their birthday in this way. Fellow politicians who share my birthday are David Amess and William Hague. I stopped believing in

A day off!

Husband decided a break would do me good and booked me into the Sanctuary for a day. Blissful as spent most of the day having bits of me pampered and massaged and felt very chilled at the end of the day. I decided I would read the glossy magazines while I was there which is a rare treat for me but at the moment it is impossible to escape politics even for a day - expected to be reading about

Guardian Blog Awards

Yes they're here. And as Recess Monkey (a long term institution on my blog roll) has reminded me, vote Recess Monkey!

Double dose of the Guardian

Two pieces of news from the Guardian.Today's paper has an article from Tariq Ali saying he'll be voting for me - in order to oust the pro-war Labour MP.Also, I've been shortlisted again in the Guardian political blogs of the year competition. You can vote up until 4 April. Also see some of the online Lib Dem ads are appearing on the Guardian website. Part of our overall stepping up of the campaign to be serious challengers to the other two parties - hurrah!

Tariq Ali Says: vote Lib Dem to beat Labour

This issue is relevant in Sparkbrook and Small Heath and Perry Barr. In both of these seats the Respect group are standing. Extracting from his article: " the votes cast for the Greens, Respect and others will have no impact, with a possible exception in Bethnal Green and Bow," and "It is possible that in some constituencies the Green/Respect vote could ensure the return of a warmonger, as
