BritBlog Roundup

Many thanks to Tim Worstall for putting together a Best of British blogging selection - and particular thanks to him for starting his first one with my posting Listen to Gladstone. The least I can do is add his blog to my list of links.

Council Shows More Disdain for Voluntary Groups

Long-held plans to build a community centre in Enfield Lock are dead in the water after the council withdrew its support for the project. Enfield Lock Action Group (ELAGA) first mooted plans to build a community centre on the site of the former science park in Innova Park five years ago.

Ambridge riots

Sometimes it is hard to escape the conclusion that some people working in the public sector would be happiest living in a totalitarian state. Take this report in today's Observer about reactions to Brian Aldridge outburst at Alice's intention to leave her fee-paying school and do her A levels at a further education College. (We're talking about the BBC Radio 4 soap opera The Archers, stoopid.) The paper quotes him as follows: "Borchester College?" exploded Brian. "Has she been on the horse pills? It's sheer madness. This item says more about the opportunism of the BNP than it does about fox hunting, so if your idea of a good time is to spend a Saturday watching a pack of dogs rip apart a defenceless creature from atop a horse, please do not think I am pointing the finger at you. Nevertheless it appears that the BNP have jumped onto the Countryside Alliance bandwagon in the name of defending the "British way of life". The Observer reports today that, "During a hunting demonstration outside the Labour party spring conference nine days ago, far-right activists handed out ...
