The Strawberry Field children's home immosrtalised by The Beatles is to close, reports the BBC.
Harry's choice of costume does not such a surprise when you consider the career or his great uncle - the husband of one of Prince Philip's sisters: Philip's sister had married a cousin, Prince Christoph of Hesse. Prince Christoph had joined the Nazi Party in 1933 and by 1935 was a standartenführer (colonel) of the SS on the personal staff of Heinrich Himmler and chief of the forschungsamt (directorate of scientific research) - in reality a special intelligence operation using new electronic intelligence gathering methods. Their son was named Karl Adolf after Hitler. Peter Berresford Ellis's article from
A great article by Gez Smith on why all young people should consider the Liberal Democrats as their natural political home. If for no other reason than many won't be able to afford to go to university under the other two parties...
The sad thing about Prince Harry appearing at a party wearing a Nazi swastika is that he is not untypical of his class and his generation. Surveys have consistently shown that the vast majority of young people know little or nothing about the Nazis and the evil they perpetrated. Even fewer understand the significance of the swastika, whilst most have never heard of the concentration camps and what occurred there. The symbols of the German National Socialist party have been hijacked by a minority to support a certain view of Britishness that excludes ethnic minorities, wraps itself in the

Mr Kennedy said the £250m a year being spent on the bonds would be better invested in cutting classroom numbers to a maximum of 20 for five to
Sick of being given the wrong information by National Rail Enquiries' phone line? Don't have WAP on your mobile? National Rail have launched a new text service, the TextMe TrainTracker(TM) for departures/arrivals information. It costs 25p per text received, plus the standard cost of sending a text to the service. The short code is 48 49 50. To find trains departing from Edinburgh, you would
Margot Wilson, a teacher from Enfield, has passed on a petition to me about the inspections regime in schools. Lib Dem policy is that inspectors provide advice on how to implement improvements rather than just criticise. Her petition can be found online at http://www.PetitionOnline.com/MW01/petition.html . i also look forward to chatting to Margot about the issue of teacher retention in
Yep, the US Government has finally put 2 and 2 together and got 4. PS. George Bush hasn't got the hand of advanced mathematics, so they've illustrated what's going on using special playing cards and a Punch and Judy show.
Prince Harry's wearing of a swastika armband at a recent fancy dress party is the tabloid crise du jour. While most respondents to the BBC's Have Your Say website have echoed the widespread condemnations, one chap from London seems quite blasé. "I'm sure he's not the first or the last to wear a Nazi uniform to a fancy dress party." I really should get out more often.
